The Original Cocktail - the Gimlet

by Charly Thieme on 0 Comments

The Gimlet is often named as the first cocktail invented!

Hundreds of years ago Vitamin C deficiency in sailors very often led to scurvy, a painful and sometimes fatal disease. In an attempt to prevent them to become ill at work, lime juice (later lime cordial) was mixed with 1:1 with navy strength (57 %) gin to fight scurvy.

By the mid-20th century the gimlet was a popular cocktail with naval officers and in British society.

The gang at Red Pigeon Media made the below video for us - enjoy their contemporary twist!
