Gin cocktails for autumn and winter
It’s not just for G&Ts – gin’s so versatile it’s a drink for all seasons.
Our botanicals including fresh orange and lime – with lashings of juniper, of course – give Brighton Gin a taste which combines perfectly with a range of mixers.
Now there’s a chill coming in the air, we’re turning to warming yet refreshing autumn and winter gin cocktails, with earthy cinnamon, zingy oranges, sweet and spicy pear and cardamom, and warming mulled gin.
Blood Orange and Thyme cocktail
Ingredients: 50ml Brighton Gin (available here), 25ml Cointreau Blood Orange (available here), 25ml freshly squeezed lime juice, 20ml freshly squeezed blood orange juice, Ginger Ale and a sprig of fresh thyme.
Combine the gin, Cointreau and lime juice in a glass filled with ice. Add the blood orange juice and top with ginger ale. Garnish with a blood orange slice and a sprig of fresh thyme.
Eastern Pear with home-made syrup
To make the syrup
2 cups of caster sugar, 2 cups of water, 3 pears, 3 star anise, 4 cardamom pods
Put equal parts sugar and water (we use 2 cups of each) into a saucepan along with the pears, chopped up into cubes. Allow to simmer until the pears soften. Add the star anise and cardamom pods and allow to simmer for another 10 minutes. Remove pan from the heat and allow to steep for at least an hour. Transfer into a clean glass jar, add a star anise and a cardamom pod and allow to cool. Cover and keep in refrigerator for a month.
For the cocktail
Ingredients: 50ml Brighton Gin 20ml Apple juice (we love Wobbegate!), 15ml lemon juice, 25ml of your home-made Pear, star anise & cardamom syrup, and 1 large egg white.
Dry shake (without ice) all ingredients for 1 minute. Then wet shake (with ice) until shaker turns frosty. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with a star anise.
Ingredients: 350ml Brighton Gin (available from our shop), 700ml apple juice (we recommend Wobblegate!), 100ml red vermouth, 25ml cherry brandy, freshly squeezed juice of 2 limes, 2 cinnamon sticks, 1 orange.
Slice up the orange and then put all the ingredients into a saucepan on the hob… Super easy! Don’t let the mixture boil but serve hot. Garnish with fresh or dried oranges. Warming and delicious!
